PayPal Buyer Protection

We protect you from checkout to delivery, using the most advanced anti-fraud technology to detect problems before they happen. We never share your financial information with sellers, and if you have a problem with your purchase and the transaction qualifies for Buyer Protection, we'll refund the purchase amount plus original shipping costs (return costs are not covered by PayPal Buyer Protection).

Buyer Protection covers all eligible online purchases paid for with PayPal, as well as payments made through our website. To qualify for Buyer Protection, we require, among other things, that accounts are in good standing and that the dispute is filed within 180 days of the date the purchase or payment was made.

To know all the requirements, consult our Terms of Use

Examples of transactions covered by Buyer Protection:

  • You bought a book but received a DVD.
  • You purchased an item that was described as “new,” but received something used.
  • You purchased three items, but only received two.
  • The item was significantly damaged during shipping.
  • The item is missing parts (and the seller had not informed about this).
  • You purchased an item described as authentic, but received a knockoff instead.

Examples of uncovered transactions:

  • Real estate.
  • Motor vehicles.
  • Custom made items not received.
  • Industrial machinery.
  • Items equivalent to cash amounts, including prepaid or gift cards.
  • Articles that violate our policies.
  • Any item purchased in person (not online).
  • Disputes filed after 180 days from the date of purchase for claims for items not received or different from the description.
  • Items that were correctly described by the seller in the case of claims for items significantly different from what was described.

Account protection

If you report an unauthorized transaction within 180 days of the transaction date, we will investigate it immediately.

Refunds

If you don't receive your order, or what you receive doesn't match the description, and your purchase qualifies, we may be able to refund you the full amount, plus the original shipping costs.

You are protected if:

1. You did not receive your order.

To start the refund request process, all you need to do is log in to your account and file a dispute within 180 days of the purchase date.

2. You received your order, but it is different from how it was described.

There are several situations in which this condition is met, such as:

  • You received a completely different item.
Example: You bought a book but received a DVD.
  • The item is missing parts or features, and the seller has not disclosed this.
Example: The ad said batteries included, but you didn't receive them.
  • You purchased a specific quantity of an item, but received an incorrect quantity.
Example: You bought five pairs of shoes but only received four.
  • The item was significantly damaged during transport.
Example: You bought a beautiful antique lamp and it arrived broken.
  • You received a phished version of the article.
Example: You bought a Rolex but received a knockoff.

3. You were charged for something you didn't buy.

This may mean that someone has used your PayPal account without your knowledge or permission. Report it within 180 days and PayPal will investigate. If we determine that it was an unauthorized transaction or an error, you'll be covered by our Zero Liability Program for eligible unauthorized transactions.
